They say all good things must come to an end. Host Jon Stewart has announced the he is leaving Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” after nearly two decades on the air.

“Seventeen years is the longest I have ever in my life held a job,” Stewart said, “by 16 years and 5 months.”

The Daily Show was a breath of fresh air for many people because of the way it handled their news stories. The satirical show often would poke fun of the larger news networks and point out the many flaws and biases they held.

Stewart did mention the news to his audience on Tuesday night. He mentioned that he had been given “an incredible opportunity to pilot this wonderful franchise.” He later added, “In my heart I know it is time for someone else to have that opportunity.”

No one is exactly sure when Stewart will leave for good, but Comedy Central released a statement indicating that he will remain at the helm until later this year.

What will be next for Jon Stewart? Will he be in Hollywood still making movies and TV shows? Or does the 52-year-old think now is a good time for retirement and spending time with his family? We don’t have those answers but we do know Comedy Central will have some huge shoes to fill for one of its flagship programs.
