Lil Wayne And TI Starting Their Own Label?

Lil Wayne‘s beef with Birdman and Cash Money Records is well documented at this point, and the rapper took his feud to the next level with his latest mixtape, “Sorry 4 The Wait 2,” in which he laid down numerous diss lines aimed at his mentor and label. This came after a series of tweets in which Wayne expressed his frustrations, calling himself a “prisoner” and blaming the label for the delayed release of his new album, “The Carter V.”

TMZ reported last week that Weezy is preparing to sue Birdman and Cash Money for $8 million, and today rumors are swirling that Wayne plans to team up with fellow hip-hop icon TI and that the two will start their own label.

If it happens, the duo could have some considerable weight behind them.

The report from MediaTakeOut notes that the rappers’ existing relationships could bring some huge names onto the new label, including Drake, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Izalea. That would be a pretty powerful grouping, featuring some of the most notable names in the game — both male and female — including the reigning Grammy winner for Best Rap Album.

At this point, these are still unsubstantiated rumors, but when you consider Wayne’s well publicized desire to escape from Cash Money and do his own thing, it would make sense. On the first track from S4TW2, when Weezy spat, “I ain’t trippin’, I got Barbie, I got Drake too,” perhaps he was hinting at the upcoming move.

We’ll keep you posted on any developments.
